This I believe - the way to a dogs heart is thru their nose. I treat my crew by giving small samples of things I am cooking/eating, but with 2 very important points in mind, 1) always set aside the dogs portion before you add spices & flavorings. 2) less is more, only allow them a very small portion. If you want to make their enjoyment last longer - hold the food item in your closed hand & let them savor the smell for about 5-10 seconds, then open your hand to deliver the new food sample.
Herbicides, Rodenticides, Insecticides, Household Cleaning products, Fertilizer, Detergents
Antifreeze - this smells sweet to dogs but it is deadly
De-icer for sidewalks can be absorbed into the pads on their paws and they will lick them and ingest the contaminant.
Just like baby proofing for an infant, do the same for your pets; there are many hazardous chemicals in every home, under the sink, in the garage, basement or utility shed. You wouldn’t leave your 6 month old baby outdoors while the pest control tech sprays for termites, please ensure that Rover is not exposed either.
Metals: lead, zinc, copper
Batteries, cell phones, remote controls, keys & electronic key fobs,
Household plants, shrubs & garden varieties
Clothing items - these can block off the stomach
Anything you drop or leave lying around is a target for a puppy, if it can be found - then it is a potential hazard. Develop good habits of being tidy. Dogs are often attracted to bizarre items such as electronics or clothing because they carry the unique scent of family members. Socks & underwear prove to be a common theme we hear about frequently.
